PAIR OF FLAMPS in gilt bronze and porcelain with flowers
Manufacture of Mennecy-Villeroy, around 1750
Polychrome enamelled soft porcelain, gilt bronze
Very good condition, one brass floral button redone
H. 25 cm
Mark DV on the back of the terrace
Provenance
Private collection, Paris, since 2005
This pair of ormolu torches decorated with porcelain flowers draws its sources from the creations of the Vincennes factory which, at the request of the Parisian merchant-merchants, contributed to renewing the fashion of lighting from the 1740s.
The manufacture of Mennecy-Villeroy, from which our model comes, continued the research by extending the use of porcelain to the base of the torches.
Each foot is decorated with flowers painted au naturel, in bunches or scattered on the white cover, which mingle with a string of leafy volutes. One is enamelled in predominantly pink tones, the other in predominantly blue.
