POT-POURRI AUX VOLUBILIS ET SA MONTURE LOUIS XV Manufacture de Mennecy-Villeroy, circa 1750-1755
Polychrome enamelled soft porcelain with vermiculated decoration, gilt bronze
Reworked with foliage
H. 18 cm, W. 21 cm, D.14,5 cm
Provenance
Private collection, Paris, since 2018
On a rocky terrace, a delicately flowered vase, topped by a lid pierced with holes, has retained the name of these ancient amphorae, these potpourri, through which interiors were perfumed. In the middle of the 18th century, the good society made only a decorative use of these porcelain vases.
Although there are various variations of this pot set with volubilis in bloom and with an uprooted tree stump, the fact that ours has retained its original gilt bronze frame is exceptional. The quality of the enamel, the naturally painted trunk and the turquoise cover are characteristic of Mennecy production.
