This rocaille cartel is surmounted by an impressive chimera with outstretched wings. It points its head towards the thirteen-part enamel dial. The movement bears the signature of Anne
Clément, son of the famous Parisian master watchmaker Fiacre Clément.
Unlike her brothers, Anne Clément practised her watchmaking profession outside the corporate structure. After two contracts with Louis Delesprés in 1727, and then with Joseph-Joachim Bastien in 1731, he set up shop on rue du Jour in Paris. Dated 1746, the movement of our cartel is one of the last pieces he made during his short career. Its chimera decoration, of great originality, suggests that it could be a special commission.
