This bust of a warrior, wearing a winged salamander, may be a figure of the Emperor Mark Antony. The head turned three-quarter, projected forward in an unstable balance caught by the pedestal, this figure is to be compared with another bust of a woman also enamelled in bright colours (fig. 1). Their sophisticated posture, their palette of ochres, yellows, blues and greens are characteristic of these rare Nevers earthenware decorated "à la palette", produced in small quantities in the second half of the 17th century.
