Small lack under the pedestal
H. 41.5 cm, W. 32.5 cm

Private collection, Paris, 1996
This bas-relief portrait of Louis XIV represents the sovereign in profile on a pedestal with his figure. He wears a ceremonial armor decorated on the breastplate with his emblem, the radiant Sun.
The bust, presented on silk, is surrounded by a finely carved and molded oval frame. Six couples of sunflowers alternate with large acanthus leaves with terminal scrolls on the grey background.
Our artist, who played with the effects of matter and light, also chose a highly symbolic plant decoration.
