MEMENTO MORI" BUST ITALY, LATE 19th - EARLY 20th CENTURY Travertine marble H. 61 cm, W. 57 cm, D. 21 cm Memento mori is a Latin phrase that means "remember that you are going to die". This medieval Christian phrase expresses the vanity of earthly life and reminds us of our mortal condition. It has given rise to many artistic interpretations. Thus the bust we are presenting is an allegorical representation of death, of the passing of time, of the emptiness of human passions and activities.
