PAIR OF SWAN LAMPS FRANCE, EMPIRE PERIOD
Gilt bronze, lacquered sheet metal
H. 70 cm, D. 36 cm
A true icon of lighting, the "bouillotte" lamps have a round base and were placed in the center of the "bouillotte" game tables in a place specially reserved for them. The model we are interested in here has a base decorated with gadroons and friezes of heart stripes supporting a shaft decorated with palmettes and scales from which five arms of light with swan decorations emerge. The height-adjustable lampshade, on a steel rod, is made of black lacquered sheet metal soberly underlined by a gold net.
