COMMODE France, Louis XVI period Oak frame; rosewood; amaranth; hornbeam; boxwood; ebony; gilded bronzes; Carrara marble Marked with fire: M and W H. 91 cm, W.128 cm, D.59 cm Beautiful neoclassical chest of drawers with a central projection marked in its lower part by a clear indentation punctuated by two small balls at its ends, the shape of which is adapted to the gilded bronze lamp-post decorated with an antique vase and acanthus leaves. The front opens with two central drawers framed by side doors. Dissimilated in the belt a row of three long drawers. It is elegantly inlaid with polychrome wood drawing octagonal trellises centered with quatrefoil fleurons on a rosewood background. A rich ornamentation of gilded bronzes completes the decor: on the belt, a frieze of leafy interlacing, floral wreaths in the corners, oval rings on the front, rings and leafy sabots on the feet and pastillons on the handles. A white marble top with grey veins tops the piece. This piece of furniture is not stamped. However, it is possible to compare it to the work of Martin Carlin (Master Cabinetmaker in 1766), particularly in the treatment of the structure, but also in the care given to the marquetry. The Riahi collection had a chest of drawers with a form and decoration very similar to ours (fig. 1). However, given the very close links that existed between the different representatives of the profession, it is also possible to refer to the creations of Adrien Faizelot-Delorme (Reçu Maître Ebéniste en 1748) (circa 1715-ap. 1783) whose Polès collection as well as the Rikoff collection both had a chest of drawers substantially similar to ours (fig. 2 and 3).
