Jan Jacobsz van der Stoffe obtained the title of 'master' in 1644. He held various positions in the famous Leiden Guild, of which he was the dean in 1669. As a painter Jan van der Stoffe specialized mainly in knightly combats and hunting scenes in the style of Palamedes Palamedesz and Esaias van der Velde.
