(Leiden, 1611 - 1682) Clash of knights Oil on panel, cm 33X42 Jan Jacobsz van der Stoffe obtained the title of 'master' in 1644. He held various positions in the famous Leiden Guild, of which he was the dean in 1669. As a painter Jan van der Stoffe specialized mainly in knightly combats and hunting scenes in the style of Palamedes Palamedesz and Esaias van der Velde. Reference bibliography: G.
