Interior with figures
Oil on panel, 21.5X16.5 cm
The painting shows the characteristics of 17th century Dutch painting. The representation is set in a tavern and the protagonists have caricatured faces that recall the physiognomies of Adriaen van Ostade (Haarlem, 1610 - 1684), a true singer of tavern scenes, with characters intoxicated by alcohol. The painting also has a vague Caravaggio influence in the way he brings the figures out of the shadows. The background, therefore, is in shadow and it is barely possible to delimit the space, while all the painter's attention is focused on describing the expressions, the stunned gazes and a gesture that is difficult to decipher.
