(Antwerp, 1610 - Brussels, 1690)
Scene of a tavern
Oil on panel, 17X19 cm
The panel presents an illustrative typology that evokes the works of David Teniers the Younger, whose extraordinary production influenced Dutch genre painting in the 17th and 18th centuries. In this painting, the author, although a pupil and follower of the master, describes an interior scene with effective realistic and narrative sensitivity. The naturalistic interpretation of the objects of domestic use and the still life pieces that decorate the humble environment offer a cross-section of the popular life of the time.
