(documented in Rome from 1662 to 1700) Still Life with Fabrics, Fruit and Pourers Oil on canvas, 72X130 cm This refined composition is attributed to Carlo Manieri, author of sumptuous still lifes depicting carpets, curtains, silverware, flowers and fruit according to a decorative principle inaugurated in Rome by Fioravanti from the fourth decade of the seventeenth century. The style is characterized by the tendency to saturate the spaces, according to a scenic module used by Maltese, an author with whom ours has often been confused. The discovery of this artist is fairly recent, but he is known to have worked for the main Roman families and to have had a prolific workshop, which was able to satisfy the demands of a clientele increasingly inclined towards Baroque ostentation. The first studies on the artist were carried out by Eduard Safarik in 1991, suggesting that a pair of canvases marked C.M. and C.M.F. were the work of Carlo Manieri, who until then was only a name recorded in the inventories of Filippo II Colonna (1714) and Benedetto Pamphilij (1725).
