Marie Hechel, Five Views of Worpswede and Northern Germany. Around 1910- 1920. Marie Hechel1870 - 1945 Berlin Various techniques. a) Two farmhouses with windmill near Worpswede. Oil on hardboard. Unsigned. Framed behind glass in a white profiled wooden frame. Four small missing parts within the picture (above the windmill upper right, at the lower margin and upper left), one crease at the upper left margin with slightly broken painting layer. margin with slightly broken painting layer, two spots with craquelure u.Mi. b) Volendam, entrance of a farmhouse with barrels . Oil on canvas. Monogrammed in lead u.r. "M.H.". Framed behind glass in a white profiled wooden moulding. With small missing part at right margin as well as in places abrasion and broken edges within the painting layer with partial loss of colour. c) Old village street in Worpswede. Coloured pastel chalk on grey paper. U.r. monogrammed in lead "M.H." and hardly legible place inscribed "...row". Framed in a passepartout behind glass in a simple white bar. Vertical crease at lower margin with slight abrasion (ca. 6 cm). d) Pines in front of a North German house . Oil on canvas. Signed u.r. "M. Hechel". Framed in a white profiled wooden moulding. With craquelure and clear abrasion within the depiction at the lower right, as well as isolated abrasion spots and small paint chips in the lower half of the picture. e) Waldstück . Pastel chalk on grey handmade paper. Monogrammed "M.H." on the lower left. Framed in a passepartout behind glass in a profiled white wooden frame. Insignificantly creased, in the lower half of the picture a slight horizontal crease with minimal loss of colour (ca. 2,5 cm). Provenance: From the artist's estate. Partially with small holes at the corners and in the margins from the process of making the work. Marie Hechel 1870 - 1945 Berlin Daughter of a haulage contractor and builder. Studied at the academy of arts in Berlin, pupil of Walter Leistikow. In the early 20th century stays in Sylt and Worpswede. Studio at Klosterstraße 75, Berlin (a "Klosterstraße studio community" existed from 1933-1944). The artist's father set up another studio for her in Berlin's Chaussee-Strasse, where she died and lost a large body of work through bombing.
