Otto Gussmann, Study of a seated lady with fur. Early 20th century. Otto Gussmann1869 Wachbach - 1926 Dresden Oil on cardboard. Unsigned. Verso with a paper label, inscribed in ink "Otto Gussmann" and numbered in lead "140". Above another label, numbered "32". Scratch marks, edges and corners slightly bumped. Within the image u.l. in the area of the dress a small paint chip. O.Mi. a small hole with some loss of the painting layer. Dimensions: 26 x 21,4 cm. Otto Gussmann 1869 Wachbach - 1926 Dresden Apprenticeship as a decorative painter in Stuttgart, afterwards attendance of the school of arts and crafts there. In 1892 Gussmann went to the teaching institute of the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts. 1896 began studies at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. In 1897 he became a teacher and later professor at the Royal Academy of Arts. 1915-19 Rector at the Dresden Academy of Art. Under Gussmann's direction, the Academic Master Studio for Decorative Painting was opened in 1910. At the same time he was a founding member of the Dresden Artists' Association. Gussmann is considered an important representative of Art Nouveau.
