Gerhard Graf, Wittenberg - View of the market place with town church and Luther monument. Probably about 1930. Gerhard Graf1883 Berlin - 1958 Stockholm / Sweden Oil on canvas. Signed "GERHARD GRAF" at the lower right margin as well as faintly legible signed again next to it, partly overpainted. Loosely sitting canvas. Corners each with a partly torn out hole, marginal areas rubbed. Isolated paint layer removals with small missing parts. Somewhat larger loss at upper right margin, beginning age craquelure. Few yellowish spots on the surface. Dimensions: 58 x 70,3 cm. Gerhard Graf 1883 Berlin - 1958 Stockholm / Sweden German landscape painter and art teacher. After his art studies Graf retired in 1925 to his country house in Werder / Havel at the Plessower See, where he met regularly with artists from Berlin and the surrounding area as well as with his school classes of the Berlin Grunewald-Gymnasium. In 1948 he moved back to West Berlin. After visiting his daughters in Stockholm, he died there. "In his works he captured the beauty of German cities, harbours and landscapes before the Second World War.
