Gerhard Graf, Dresden - View across the Elbe to Augustus Bridge and Court Church. Probably about 1930. Gerhard Graf1883 Berlin - 1958 Stockholm / Sweden Oil on canvas. Signed "GERHARD GRAF" u.li. Canvas somewhat loose. A few small holes at the left lower corner and at the right upper corner. Abrasion and small defects in the painting layer at the edges of the picture due to former framing as well as further small ones at lower left. Small tear in canvas (ca. 1 cm) at lower left. Minor craquelure due to age. At the back side remains of paper on the stretcher. Dimensions: 57,8 x 80,1 cm. Gerhard Graf 1883 Berlin - 1958 Stockholm / Sweden German landscape painter and art teacher. After studying art, Graf retired in 1925 to his country house in Werder / Havel on Lake Plessow, where he met regularly with artists from Berlin and the surrounding area, as well as with his school classes at the Grunewald Gymnasium in Berlin. In 1948 he moved back to West Berlin. After visiting his daughters in Stockholm, he died there. "In his works he captured the beauty of German cities, harbours and landscapes before the Second World War.
