Oil on cardboard. Signed "R. Birnstengel" on the lower right and dated. Framed behind glass in a profiled gold-coloured wooden frame. Signed "R. Birnstengel" again on the verso of the frame in fibre pencil and with the artist's address.
Partially inconspicuous craquelure in the area of the sky above the horizon. Minimally light-margined as well as partially with inconspicuous traces of abrasion due to the framing. Within the image a few scratch marks with tiny spots of paint loss (in the area of the skirts).

German painter, draughtsman a. graphic artist, who studied at the Dresden academy of arts under Oskar Zwintscher a. Gotthardt Kuehl. His most fruitful period was his stay at the Curonian Spit, where he developed his characteristic post-impressionistic style. Almost his entire life's work was lost in 1945 due to bombing.
