Alexander Bertelsson, Young woman in traditional costume. 1918. Alexander Bertelsson1890 Lixna - 1975 Berlin. Oil on canvas. Signed u.r. "Bertelsson" and dated. Framed in a wide profiled gold coloured wooden frame. The canvas at the lower margin somewhat tightly fitting. A small nail hole at the upper and lower left edge. Partly inconspicuous age craquelure. The marginal areas with abrasion due to the frame, at the lower margin small missing parts of the painting layer. The frame with small nail holes and chips, bumped at the corners as well as a missing part on the upper left. Dimensions: 61 x 50,5 cm, overall 75,5 x 65,5 cm. Alexander Bertelsson 1890 Lixna - 1975 Berlin German-Baltic painter, commercial artist and publicist. Studied at the art school in Riga, from 1908 as master student at the academy of arts in Munich under Heinrich von Zügel. From 1910 works in Dresden, where Wilhelm Claus became his teacher. 1913 participates in art exhibition in Riga. From 1914 stays in Sweden. Member of the artist group "Die Schaffenden". From 1922 friendship with Lovis Corinth, who strongly influenced his painting and invited him to the exhibition of the Berlin Secession. From 1928 active in Dresden. 1933 he stopped painting. 1945 loss of his work by bombs. 1993 only 7 works from the time before 1933 were provable. Only since 1967 resumption of the painterly activity.
