JACQUARD, Antoine Ornament prints. [Paris Antoine Jacquard 1610-1615] 6 engravings, 10 x 7,5 cm (platemarks), laid paper with partial watermark, signed in plate with monogram "AJ" (some scribbles in brown ink on first engr., perhaps old ownership entry, occ. marginal damp stains, sm. defect on lower strip of first engr.) Complete set of 6 plates of very rare ornament prints by Antoine Jacquard: a watchmaker, goldsmith and printmaker active in Poitiers between 1615 and 1652. He specialised in very detailed and small ornament prints with mythological scenes. These engravings were intended as decoration models for table clocks or standing clocks. The strips indicate how the sides of the clock case can be decorated, while the central oval offers a model for the dial plate. Ref. P. Fuhring, "Rijksmuseum Ornament catalogue", 2004, I.1740.
