The engravings in and out of the text have been printed in intaglio by the Paul Haasen art studio, coloured by J. Saudé and engraved on copper by L. Maccard. Spine faded, small scratch on a cup. - RACINE Jean. Phèdre et Hippolyte. Tragedy published on the original text with a foreword and anecdotes by Ad. van Bever. Edition decorated with a frontispiece, a portrait of the author and decorative compositions drawn by Ciolkowski and engraved on wood by G. Aubert. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1928. 21 x 15 cm, 303-[5] pp. Bound in full brown morocco with cream stripes set with a bold gilt fillet, mosaic head of a character at the top right of the first board, spine with 5 nerves with gilt author, title and date, fillet along the edges and dotted on the headpieces, boards bordered with the same leathers with a triple gilt fillet, gilt head, covers and spine cons. Binding signed E. Hotat & fils. Ex. numbered on Lafuma pure rag vellum (the edition is not specified). Ex-libris with the coat of arms of the Kerchove family. Some spotting to the binding.
