- Well Controversy of Isaac and the Philistines - Oil/wp. 126 x 173 cm. Frame. Restored, former crack still visible. The well dispute of Isaac and the Philistines is found in the Old Testament in Genesis (Gen 26, 15- 22). There we are told of two quarrels, after which a third well was dug and the nations were able to live peacefully side by side. From this short passage it is also clear that the claim to a well is accompanied by claims to ownership of the land around it. The dispute between the peoples is again emphasized by the two dogs biting into each other in the foreground.
