Lucas van Leyden (1494-1533) - Prudencia / Description: From the series of the Virtues: Prudence (Prudentia); a nude allegorical figure of prudence sits facing right on a stone ledge, holding calipers in her right hand and a mirror in the left with her right foot up on a book; an angel at upper right holds a halo over her head. Lettered with the letter "L" and "PRUDENTIA" at lower right and the date 1530 at upper left. The fourth in a series of seven plates of the Virtues. This is one of the two plates that bears the date 1530. Previously in the FÜRSTLICH WALDBURG WOLFEGG'sches KUPFERSTICHKABINETT (collection stamp). An impression with the same watermark as Fortitude, from the same series in the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam (Gothic P with flower) / Dimensions: 16,30 x 10,70 cm A good impression on laid paper with Gothic P with flower watermark. Full plate border and tread margins.
