Carel van Mallery (1571-1635) - The Story of the Miller, his Son and the Ass / Description: This is one of a series of six plates by Mallery (Hollstein 125-128), after Ambrosius Francken (Hollstein 6-11) depicting Aesop's fable of the miller, his son and the ass. Plate 5: A road with an old man (the miller) and his son both sitting on a donkey, a group of three figures at left, one of them playing a lute, blaming them for both riding and thus exhausting the donkey; depicting one of Aesop's fables; within ornamental frame; after Ambrosius Francken (1544-1618). Early edition with the publishers address of Philips Galle (1537-1612) / Dimensions: 19,30 x 24,60 cm Good early impression on watermarked laid paper (Interlaced C with a crown above). Good condition.
