Hunting painter/copist -18th/19th century-. "The Lion Hunt", oil on canvas, copy of the large-format Baroque hunting painting (painted in 1621) by Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640), which is already mentioned in the inventory of the Munich Residenz in 1748 and today belongs to the holdings of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, the extremely dramatically depicted action shows warriors clad in antique garb, who together with oriental fighters attempt to slay two lions, the decisive moment in the battle between man and beast is depicted here, whereby the confusing wild turmoil does not yet suggest a winner, approx. 116,5 x 154 cm, frame rubbed, paint layer crazed with chipping, restored, retouching visible under UV light, left margin shrinkage crack craquelé, abrasion, spotted verso, decorative frame border circa 1920
