Girl with a Metal Jug, c. 1700-1710
Oil on canvas
73 x 60.5
The canvas represents a young woman leaning forward, holding a metal jug in her hand. This can be directly attributed to Sebastiano Ricci, whose painting is full of elegance and culture, and based above all on the theatricality of a Venetian of the seventeenth century. Precise comparisons for style can be found with the fresco of the Resurrection of Christ in the chapel of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. And with that, it shares the date of the beginning of the eighteenth century.
