The Lamentation of Christ
Oil on canvas
81 x 166 cm
The painter was a representative of Florentine religious paintings of the first half of the 17th century. The dead Christ lies on the gravestone and is lifted by an angel on his back. An angel on the right holds the crown of thorns and the nails with which Jesus was nailed to the cross. Mary appears behind her son's body with outstretched arms. The painter simplified the pictorial forms to bring the essential into focus. However, this painting is an important example of Florentine style in the seventeenth century.
