Southern Italian school, 17th century, oil painting on canvas, The work is taken from the painting of the Supper at Emmaus that Professor Riccardo Lattuada ascribed to Luca Giordano's catalog in 2013, at the same time as the Dorotheum painting was auctioned (15 October 2013, lot no.576).
The painter of the painting presented here, a follower of Giordano, clearly acknowledges the Venetian chromatic traits (in particular Tintoretto and Veronese that the Master studied deeply), highlighting however a darker luminism, not present in the work by Giordano.
From a conservative point of view, the painting has several repainted parts, both on the background and on the face and mantle of Christ. In addition, the left apostle and the host show retouching in several places. A vast network of cracks crosses the entire pictorial surface. In frame, 42 x 61 cm
