Fernand Léger (1928 - 1987) after. Les Loisirs, Hommage à Louis David. Print, on BFK Infinity paper. Size of the plate: 50 x 65 cm + the frame. On the lower right corner, dry stamp of the editions Artis. Edition: 80/ 300 - Limited edition of 300 copies.
Fernand Léger glorifies here the popular leisure and with them, the paid holidays obtained in 1936 under the Popular Front. A history painting, Les Loisirs is also a tribute to the sober and hieratic style of the painter Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) - the posture of the woman in the foreground is an allusion to the painting The Death of Marat (1793). The stylized figures, some of them dressed in American fashion, seem to look directly at the viewer.
