Due to the economist Eugène Buret (1810-1842), a disciple of Sismondi, and awarded a prize by the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, this study constitutes one of the first sociological analyses of pauperism and exerted a profound influence on the thinking of Karl Marx.
Buret's book is one of the most remarkable of the new French economic school. It is the first protest of labor against the abuses of capital. [...] this work is the most eloquent manifesto that has appeared against the excesses of English industrialism (Adolphe Blanqui, Histoire de l'économie politique en Europe).
Handwritten bookplate on one endpaper: Allard.
Some foxing. Rubbing to the binding, snagging to the headpieces and re-staining in places.
