Collier (John) His Monkey Wife, first edition, original cloth, very small mark to upper cover and slight fading to spine ends, dust-jacket with faded spine and fading encroaching onto panels, spine ends chipped, 8vo, 1930. ⁂ The author's first book, a fantasy classic. A lonely schoolmaster in the Upper Congo unwittingly teaches his pet chimp to read. She devours the English classics and begins to exhibit the softer virtues of Victorian womanhood, but when the chimp gets a rival for the schoolmaster's affections she starts reading "Murders in the Rue Morgue."
