Silk Caesarea carpet (Asia Minor), end of the 19th century
Dimensions : 180 x 130cm.
Technical characteristics : Silk velvet on silk foundation.
A burgundy field, with a double arrowhead, decorated with carnations and flowers, hosts two stylized columns supporting a navy vault with delicate old gold flowered stems. The symbolic lamp hangs from the ivory mihrab. The upper reserve, emerald, is decorated with flowering bouquets. Four counter borders, ivory and old rose, with garlands and interlacing flowers, frame the ivory border, with a succession of staggered leafy corollas. Beautiful polychromy. (Wear and tear and restorations, as is)
