The illustration consists of a title-frontispiece, a folding genealogical table and 20 in-text figures all engraved in intaglio by Bernard Picart.
The Alcoranus Franciscanorum by Erasmus Alber, whose present translation by Conrad Baden was published in 1556, is a collection of the most blasphemous extracts from the "Liber conformitatum", a work that has remained famous for the absurdities it contains, in which its author, Bartolomeo degli Albizzi, intended to underline the similarities between the life of Christ and that of St. Francis.
