MANUEL SÁEZ (Castellón, 1961) "This yes. No, not that", 1989. Oil on canvas. Measurements: 55 x 46 cm. Certificate of the Rene Metras Gallery of Barcelona on the back of the work. He is a Spanish plastic artist of self-taught formation, with a personal aesthetic characterized by a refined drawing, with constant research in color, figure, nature and the objectual world. During the 80's he investigates the playful image in painting and its history through a refined language formed by elements of comics, media and art history. In 1990 he received a scholarship from the Spanish Academy in Rome, where he developed a series of portraits called Unauthorized Biography. In 1995 he moved to the Dominican Republic to make drawings and watercolors of objects from the tropical landscape, presenting them the following year at the University of Valencia. Since 2004 he has focused on the increasingly refined study of drawing and on the series of portraits begun in 1990. He has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions.
