Oil/canvas, doubled, Madonna of the Rocks. The theme refers to the story when John the Baptist was saved from infanticide in Bethlehem and brought to the Madonna. It shows the praying Madonna in front of a high mountain landscape, with two children in a loving embrace. The detail of this embrace was very popular for Dutch artists such as Joos van Cleve (1485 1541). It is a version of the painting in the Galleria Manfrediana in Venice, A pupil of Domenico Ghirlandaio, Domenico di Bartolomeo Ubaldini gen. Puligo.
