"Tilebein was born in 1890 in Leopoldshall in Anhalt. In 1904 she began training as a Lutheran nurse. After passing her nursing exams as a registered nurse in Leipzig in 1914, Tilebein volunteered her services to the Imperial and Royal Austrian Army during World War I. Between December 1915 and March 1916, she was assigned as an epidemic nurse at the K.u.K. Epidemic Barracks Hospital in Temesvár, where she cared primarily for cholera sufferers from the Serbian army. In 1916 she transferred to the K. u. K. Sanitätsanstalten in Syria, where she worked in the desert and in the ambulance in Biserba. In mid-October she transferred to Jerusalem, where she was awarded the Iron Crescent for her services in the Mobile Reserve Hospital. In 1917 she received the Red Crescent at the instigation of Djemal Pasha. Due to an inflammation of the joints with heart involvement, Tilebein was detached to Constantinople. After the war ended on Oct. 30, 1918, she traveled to Vienna and Salzburg in April 1919. - Contains: Verhaltschein zum Aufenthalt in Jena 1912. - Identity card of the Kgl.
