Tractatus Petri de Eliaco episcopi Camerarensis: super libros Metheororum ... (Vienna, Vietor, Singriener for Alantse, 9 January 1514). 25 ll. & printer's mark (in facsimile), 14 w. Bll. 8° Hldr. d. 19 Jhds.
Of great rarity, no copy at auction in recent years and no copy traceable to us in international trade. Very rare commentary by Ailly on Aristotle Meteora. In this work Aristotle discusses climate, comets and earthquakes. The fourth book deals with chemical questions and also mineralogy. D'Ailly's works are influenced by the spirit of nominalism and especially by William of Ockham, Henry of Langenstein, John Gerson and Roger Bacon. His astronomical and geographical book Imago mundi (1410), compiled from various ancient and medieval writings, was one of Christopher Columbus' sources for his idea of seeking a sea route to India via the Atlantic. The lunar crater Aliacensis is named after him. - Only minimally browned. Good copy.
