Beytrag zur Naturgeschichte der Vögel. Wien, gedruckt mit Schmidtischen Schriften, 1790-1791-1792-1795, 6 vols. in-4, full green morocco, gilt border on boards, coloured coats of arms (armorial rings of the family couples) pasted on paper on boards in an oval frame for vol. 2-6, spine gilt, gilt edges, (contemporary binding). With 9 watercoloured plates of coats of arms, one coloured plate of dedication and 270 plates of birds (out of 271) finely engraved and coloured, with handwritten Latin captions and German translation. Some are short of margin and uncaptioned. Vol. 1 and 4 are not of the same size. Vol. 1 has no coat of arms on the boards. The coats of arms (dedications) are as follows. Vol. 1: Joseph von Liechtenstein und Karoline von Manderscheid-Blankenheim. Vol. 2: Karl von Liechtenstein und Marianne Josepha von Khevenhüller-Metsch. Vol. 3: Nikolaus II, Esterhazy de Galantha und Maria Josepha Hermengilde von Liechtenstein. Vol. 4 : Franz Joseph Maximilian von Lobkowitz und Karoline Theresia von Schwarzenberg. Vol. 5 : Wenzel Graaf Paar und Maria Anna Fürstin Liechtenstein. Vol. 6: Anton Theodor von Colloredo Waldsee, Mels, Erzhischof von Olmütz. Joachim SPALOWSKY (1752-1792) was an Austrian naturalist. Bindings rubbed, damage to spine of vol.3, spine rest. of vol.1. Incomplete of pl. 44 in vol.3, faint rest. of pl. 26 in vol.1, faint marginal cut in pl. 12 and wear to colours on pl. 28 of vol.2. Monogram AD (?) under crown on endpapers. Beautiful period colours. Uncommon.
