Marcel Couderc (1898 - 1991), a drawing teacher and artist inspired by Naive Art, is mainly known for his exceptional fresco which adorns the hall of the Camera cinema in Meknes (Morocco), created in 1938. Monumental, it reflects the Art Deco aesthetic of his work. His attraction to the play of colour shades, intertwined perspectives and stylised compositions makes him the Douanier Rousseau of modern times.
"African Woman and Child" (1953) illustrates the harmony sought by Marcel Couderc between a luxuriant Nature and the men who populate it. The geometrisation of the lines and forms, the addition of bright red to the warm tones, reflect the decorative aspect of this modern artist.
