Marcel Couderc (1898 - 1991), a drawing teacher and artist inspired by Naive Art, is mainly known for his exceptional fresco which adorns the hall of the Camera cinema in Meknes (Morocco), created in 1938. Monumental, it reflects the Art Deco aesthetic of his work. His attraction to the play of colour shades, intertwined perspectives and stylised compositions makes him the Douanier Rousseau of the Modern Age.
The work of lacquer inscribes Couderc's work in the vogue of the decorative arts of the first half of the 20th century. Illustrating the predominance of fauna and flora in his compositions, "Poissons" (1940) demonstrates the artist's liking for sinuous lines and minimalist strokes, witnesses of the modern character of his work.
