The patches of colour, skilfully juxtaposed, seem to have taken over the winter climate and its clear, cold light to sprinkle the whole composition with snow. The impressionist teachings of his father, Camille Pissarro, are reflected in the treatment of this subject, but Georges Manzana-Pissarro also emancipates himself from them by choosing to give as much importance to the character and his boat as to the palpable winter light.
