Provenance Former Jean-Alain Mariaud de Serres collection, before 1971 Ex-sale of Ricqlès, Drouot-Montaigne, Paris, Archaeology, 1-2 October, 2000, lot 690 Ex-Bonhams sale, London, 13 April 2011, lot 166 A SUMERIAN CHLORITE AND AGATE PARURE WITH TWO NECKLACES AND A BRACELET, LATE URUK , JEMDETNASR, 3300-2900 B.C. 19 13.8 in. Necklace length ; 9 in, Bracelet length. Composed of twenty-five stylised hardstone frogs, interspersed with thirty-eight carnelian mainly disc beads, restrung with modern loop terminals; another necklace composed of thirty-seven rectangular hardstone necklace elements triply pierced, retsrung with modern loop terminals, and a bracelet composed of sixteen hardstone rectangular beads with seven piercings, two smaller triply pierced beads at the terminals, restrung in a fitted presentation box. Adornment composed of a large necklace (reconstructed) made up of 37 quadrangular chlorite beads, a smaller necklace (reconstructed) made up smaller necklace (reconstituted) of 25 chlorite pearls in the shape of frogs, alternated by discoidal and tubular pearls discoidal and tubular agate beads. And a bracelet (reconstituted) of 18 rectangular chlorite beads.
