A BYZANTINE GOLD CROSS ON A GOLD CHAIN, 5TH CENTURY A.D. 0,9 x 0,7 in. Cross dim / 9,3 in. Total Lenght / 12,41 grs. The one plain sheet gold cross pendant with slightly flaring arms has the front set with a green glass paste element held in a gold collar. The gold loop-in-loop type chain is ending in one end with a hook that joins a loop with twisted gold wire. Made of a thick gold plate, the cross is characterized by flared arms decorated at each corner with small gold spheres and a suspension ring for the attachment of pendeloque (two remaining). In the centre of the cross, a high tubular section set with with a green glass paste. The suspension ring with ribbon lets pass a gold chain of interlaced circular links. The hook attachment.
