IMPORTANT ARCHITECTURAL RING Late Hellenistic art, 2nd century B.C. AN IMPORTANT LATE HELLENISTIC GOLD RING WITH STEPPED BEZEL SET WITH GARNET AND SAPPHIRE CABOCHON STONES, 2ND CENTURY B.C. 1,7 in. Total height / 1,4 in. Bezel length / 0.7 x 074 in. Int. Diam / 0.5 x 0.7 in. Garnet / 0.3 x 0.4 in. Sapphire / 49,5grs. The ring of a complex construction and architectural design is composed of a hollow bezel with a series of sharply molded hexagonal steps endinf with a large cabochon garnet. The hoop is solid and boat-shaped, a small oval sapphire is set in the center of the hoop at the bottom. The hoop attaches to the bezel by means of hinged elements held by pegs. This intricately constructed ring consists of a large hollow bezel composed of a series of hexagonal hexagonal sections cast in gold and terminating in a large cabochon-cut garnet. The oval-shaped solid gold ring is attached to the bezel by peg joints. It is set with with a small oval sapphire, set in the center and diametrically opposite the garnet.
