A BYZANTINE GOLD "LOTUS" RING SET WITH INLAID GARNETS, 7TH CENTURY B.C.
0.6 in. Bezel High / 0,9 in. Int. Diam / 12,23 grs. With a large rounded hoop decorated with lotus flower pattern within a beaded border. The high raised
lotus bezel with 6 sections also decorated with flower pattern is set with a central losange-shaped gold box with a garnet inlay. Around 6 rounded
garnet inlays surrounded by filigree. Beautiful conservation. A similar example sold for £ 4,000 at Christie's London the 6/7/1994, lot 356.
The ring consisting of a large rounded gold plate decorated with lotus, and the edges in filigree. The very high lotus-shaped bezel
with six sections, each decorated with an incised flower (same pattern as on the ring) is set in cloisonné with several garnets
of which the central element is diamond-shaped. Watermarks on the edges.
A similar model was presented at Christie's London sale on 6/7/1994, lot 356 and sold for £ 4,000.
