ROMAN RING SET WITH AN INTAGLIO Roman art, 3rd century Gold and intaglio in nicolo ; Dim (intaglio)_ 1,3 x 1,0 cm L (bezel)_ 2,7 cm ; Diam (int)_ 2,0 cm ; Weight_ 35,5 grs Provenance Former European collection, 1980s A ROMAN GOLD RING WITH NICOLO INTAGLIO. A VEILED MATRONA PORTRAIT, 3RD CENTURY A.D. 0,5 x 0,4 in. Intaglio dim / 1,1 in. Bezel length / 0,8 in. Internal diam / 35,5 grs. Hexagonal ring of oval form, deeply grooved on the outside. Round the oval bezel is a series of volutes. Engraved nicolo with the portrait of a veiled Matrona, turned to left. Hexagonal ring, rounded on the outside and flattened on the inside. The large oval bezel is decorated with a raised rim and on the outer part in continuity with the shoulders of the ring, engraved decoration of volutes. Set with an engraved nicolo agate showing a portrait of a Roman matron wearing a veil. The face is turned to the left.
