FRAGMENT OF A PRIEST'S TORSO
Egypt, Late Period, Dynasty XXV-XXX, 775-342 BC
Granite
Dim_ 17,5 x 13 cm
Provenance:
Former French collection, acquired from Lennox Gallery in 1965
The naked torso is partially clothed with a wide band passing under the right breast and rising behind the left shoulder (now missing). This may be a stylized representation of the panther skin of the prairie. He wears the bat collar with hathoric head. On the back, an interesting hand detail appears on the lower right side of the back, suggesting the presence of a figure at the priest's side.
These same elements are found on the late Dynasty XXV torso of Montuemhat in the Brooklyn Museum, inv. 16.580.186.
AN EGYPTIAN LATE PERIOD BLACK GRANITE TORSO FRAGMENT OF A PRIEST, DYNASTY 25TH - 30TH, 775-342 B.C.
6,9 x 5,1 in. Dim. The torso is partially dressed in a wide band passing under the right breast and going up behind the left shoulder (now missing). It can be a stylized representation of the priesthood panther skin.
He wears the hathoric-headed "bat" collar. On the back, an interesting detail in the shape of a principal appears at the lower back, on the right, which suggests the presence of a character next to the priest.
We find these same elements on the torso of Montuemhat kept at the Brooklyn Museum and dating from the end of the XXVth dynasty, inv. 16,580,186.
