History: According to the symbolism of the Gospel of John 9-4-41 the blind man born. The monkey represents evil, imitating man and imitating the blind. The resemblance of apes to man has long intrigued. Aristotle discusses it in his history of animals. Pliny the Elder (23-79) discusses it in his natural history, the apes of Wisdom, including the blind man.
The oldest trace is found in the talks of Confucius (VI century BC) and they were introduced into Buddhism by a monk (Xuanzang) in the VII century AD.
The description of the scene of this tapestry is obvious in the Natural History of BUFFON (Volume II, p. 267). Buffon writing in the 18 th century, took again this method and technique of hunting to the monkeys of an older work and having probably studied the work of Jakob de Bondt on the monkeys and orangutans.
Charles Perrault was probably influenced by this booklet to write the tale: The Seven Leagues Boots.
