Important tapestry of Aubusson. Late 17th and early 18th century. Hera (the goddess of marriage, fertility, life and family, daughter of the titans Cronos and Rhea, wife of Zeus : the king of the Gods) and the queen Alcmene. The Goddess Hera on the left, a peacock at her side and Queen Alcmene prostrate on the right.
Greedy for conquest and wealth, you Amphitryon kills King Argos in a duel and subjugates his people. Seeing that her husband's thirst for power is never satisfied, Queen Alcmene prostrates herself before the goddess Hera to ask her to end the war.
The God Zeus then gives her a second son: Hercules (Heracles) to overthrow the tyrannical King Amphitryon as an adult and bring peace to his people
