Buy de Mornas, Claude. - Atlas historique et géographique, dedicated to Mr. President Hénault. Paris, Desnos, 1762. 1 vol. in-folio, brown half calf, spine ribbed and decorated - spine worn, spine split, boards rubbed, edges and corners open - Entirely engraved in intaglio on 77 double pages mounted on tabs, half of them with a coloured map, frontispiece engraved by Le Canut. Volume 4 only (and the third of the ancient history) of this important historical and geographical atlas due to the abbot Buy de Mornas, tutor of the children of France who taught geography to the future Louis XVI and was later his geographer. For the chronology, Mornas adopts the continuous dating starting from the year zero of the origin of the world, that is 4000 years before Jesus-Christ. Thus, the conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar is dated from the year 3947 and not from 52 BC.
