DUNHILL BOX, 1930's rectangular, jadeite and black onyx feet. On the lid is a Chinese jadeite statuette of an Immortal (top of the stick missing), accompanied at each corner by cabochons of sugarloaf amethysts, held in a closed setting, in 18K yellow gold. The interior reveals two compartments. Signed Dunhill. Test mark and master mark of Strauss Allard Meyer. Original case, fitted and stamped Dunhill. Dimensions : 170 x 105 x 35 mm approximately. Alfred Dunhill (1872-1959) was an English tobacco merchant, entrepreneur and inventor. Today the Dunhill brand is famous for its cigarette boxes, pipes and luxury lighters. Strauss, Allard & Meyer were Parisian manufacturers of kits and other small boxes and accessories, operating in the 1920s and 1930s. They supplied famous jewellers such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Lacloche.
